Friday night proved to be one for the books. The home of rock Hollywood CA, Industrial/Death Pop band Orgy rolled through the Whisky Ago-go with some heavy hitters (Orgy, Silos and Antania are reviewed here yet thanks to the whole night of madness) and put on one hell of a show.
Now for those who aren’t familiar with the band Orgy, these cats have been producing killer riffs and visuals since 1994 ever since member Jay Gordon (Singer) first started with the project. If you’re the kinda person whose flavor of music prefers the Industrial kind and who enjoys the sounds of Marilyn Manson, NIN and Ministry then you are definitely going to want to give them a listen. Orgy blew apart the Whisky in Hollywood CA.
Now let me lead you back to the evening night lights. I will say even though Orgy is the main attraction of the night, I showed up early for one of the supporting artists. Third band of the night was the band, Silos. They came out heavy and were full of energy with lots of running around the stage and lots of power. They had an aura about them and you can see this band headlining stadiums. They didn’t disappoint and took me to a faraway place where heartthrobs were writing superior music. In a packed Whisky, they did a supreme job in getting the Orgy party started, the crowd absolutely loved them and their singer has fame written on his face. Their heartthrob performance was filled with heavy riffs and powerful songs.
The first band of the night was the “Duo Doom/Bass project”, known as ‘Antania’ and put on a performance that was absolutely brutal and just left me in awe watching Dr Luna operate his machines that make this project so unique. Singer Kali Mortem was breathtakingly awesome and possibly one of the most original projects emerging right now. They recently signed to a Roman Italy label “The Triad Recs’ and If you’re looking for something relevant and completely original, check out Antania. They left the early half packed Whisky ago go in awe. I had no intention of reviewing anyone other than Orgy and Silos but Antania was just so fascinating, heavy and pure originality. I walked in right when they went on and my mouth dropped and I froze for 30 mins watching their set.
The moment of the night that drew this massive crowd to downtown Hollywood CA had finally come. The house lights drop, the red LED stage lights come up, and smoke starts filling up the stage. All you can hear at this is the crowd at this point, screaming and whistling and about every three to four seconds a couple of girls yelling “I love you!” This lasted for about a total of fifteen seconds before the band made it out on the stage. Boom, a big red flash, and the industrial/pop badasses were on stage and ready to thrash. They came out heavy and lead Jay Gordon was pitch-perfect and absolutely destroyed every note he sang. Orgy are just like you would imagine them to be: live, loud, sexy, heavy and all balls. Their set was pure adrenaline and you just didn’t want them to stop playing. They left your mouth dry and wanting more. I highly recommend experiencing Orgy for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
