In a bold move, Ari Joshua has unveiled ‘One Dub,’ the latest installment in his ambitious plan to release 24 original works in 2024. This improvisational reggae EP, recorded at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, features a stellar lineup of musicians, including bassist Andy Hess, drummer John Kimock, and Eden Ladin on the keys.

‘One Dub’ not only emerges as the fifth release from these sessions but also brings a unique flair with four different remixes by Mell Dettmer, each capturing a distinct essence of the original tracks born out of a vibrant session at Bunker Studios.

Following the acclaimed tracks ‘Help On the Way’ & ‘Eyes of the World,’ and originals ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Eye Just Called to Soul, I Love You,’ each track on ‘One Dub’ exemplifies the innovative spirit these musicians are celebrated for. The earlier releases like the afro-beat instrumental ‘Kambo Wambo’ and the cinematic ‘Dragons Layer’ further showcase the range and creativity of Joshua and his collaborators.

John Kimock, renowned for his work with Dead and Co’s Otiel Burbridge and Phish’s Mike Gordon, brings over a decade of rhythmic expertise to the EP. Andy Hess, with a notable tenure in bands like Gov’t Mule and The Black Crowes, provides the pulsating bass lines that anchor the project’s vibrant dub reggae rhythms. Eden Ladin, a fixture in New York’s top music venues, adds layers of melodic complexity with his keyboard artistry.

Ari Joshua reflects on the inspiration behind ‘One Dub,’ noting, ‘I’ve always been a fan of dub reggae music, collecting reggae cassette tapes with my friends, and I wanted to create something that paid homage to that vibe while putting my own spin on it. The music emerged from a free jazz improvisation session and naturally landed on this vibe.’

Born in Cape Town and raised in the U.S., Ari Joshua combines his diverse influences and formal training from The New School in NYC into his music. His career, boosted by collaborations with icons like Robert Glasper and John Medeski, reflects a commitment to both performance and instruction, evident in his role as the founder of The Music Factory, which provides music education across all ages.

Reflecting on the importance of The Bunker Studio, Joshua reveals, ‘The Bunker was established by my classmates Jon Davis and Aaron Nevise, making it incredibly dear to me. My debut recording in the spacious main room was nothing short of magical. Collaborating with outstanding musicians such as Kimock, Hess, and Ladin—truly among the finest globally—was an absolute dream realized.’

Following the release of ‘One Dub,’ Ari Joshua is not slowing down. He shares his enthusiasm for continual musical exploration and creation: ‘I’m always working on new projects and exploring different musical avenues. Right now, I’m focused on promoting ‘One Dub’ and getting it out to as many people as possible. But I’m also looking forward to diving back into the studio and continuing to create music that inspires me.’ Fans can also anticipate the upcoming track ‘Star Light Mountain,’ featuring Ray and Russ from The Trey Anastasio Band, and Soule Monde, set for release on May 17th. This new piece promises to add yet another layer to Joshua’s approach to music in whole.

As Ari Joshua continues to release new music through 2024, his journey with Music Factory Records promises more genre-blending innovations and collaborations.
